Who Forgot Their Underpants? – A Silly Summer of Storywriting (grades 2-3)
Did you know that the author of the incredibly hilarious Captain Underpants series published his first book when he was just a kid? This summer, come celebrate the great Dav Pilkey as we look at some of his funniest stories ever. And then, and this is the best part, we’re going to write our own stories and publish our own books. Spend a week at Scribble Press learning that rhyme and laughter and yes, sometimes even bad breath, can make great writers!
Downtime Can Be Dangerous – A Creative Writing Class (grades 4-6)
Who hasn’t dreamed about going away for the summer on an extraordinary quest? Decipher mysterious codes, tackle the strange and embrace the unusual, travel to places unknown. Modeling some of our favorite summer tales, we’re going to spend the week writing our own adventure of adventures. Come to Scribble to imagine and create the magic and mystery…and danger that only a week without school can bring!
COMIC BOOKS
Kapow! A Comic Book Adventure (Level 1&2 – grades 2-3 & grades 4-6)
Remember. Heroes can be unusually, well…, usual. When in disguise, they can be family pets, newspaper reporters, or indeed, even lunch ladies! Let’s learn what makes a great comic book hero and have fun creating our very own comic books. Wow your readers with silly humor or daring bravery! It’s up to you. In one week, you’ll map out your story, create fantastic comic illustrations, and finish with a completed book to show your friends. Feel like a hero when you autograph your own book at our “release” party.

Scribble Press Summer camps are fun filled days packed with arts and crafts, creative snacks, sensory exploration, games, experiments, and songs. Each week focuses on a different author or book collection, with the activities and art projects deriving from those books. An example of a day’s activities: How I Became a Pirate by David Shannon: search for buried treasure/ create a treasure map/snack on creative "pirate booty"/ act out an original pirate story/ visit "The Pirate's Cove/ learn to speak Pirate. Shiver me timbers! What a day!

REGISTRATION POLICIES
1. Refunds will be given for students who withdraw prior to the first day of class. Store credit will be given for students who withdraw on or after the first day of class.
2. 15% discount given for second class or second sibling in a class during the same semester.
3. Make-ups may be taken with advance reservation in another class of the same name, subject to availability, or work may be completed independently any Friday between 3:30 and 5:30 with advance reservation.
4. Free trials are available with advance reservation, subject to availability, for new students in the first week of any session only.

SCRIBBLETS (AGES 2 - 3)
Classes for Scribblets are one hour “grown-up and me” classes and focus on art exploration and the early building blocks of literacy. Each semester includes a variety of art media and culminates in the creation of a book that children take home to enjoy again and again.
THE COLORS OF MY WORLD
In this fun Scribblets class, children will explore primary and secondary colors through sensory activities. Side by side, each child and grown-up will use various media such as paint and collage to illustrate their color books. Children will learn important pre-literacy skills, including how to sort, recognize and match colors; and the idea that printed words convey meaning. Each class will be filled with songs, games and art related to the color of the day.
WONDERFUL WORLD OF ANIMALS
This class about animals will include stories, songs, games and masks to encourage fun social interactions. Children will learn basic descriptive words and practice visualization, in addition to a variety of fun art activities to create pages for their very own animal book.
DADDY AND ME
In this class children and their dads will be inspired each week by a different theme such as dogs, rainbows, and ladybugs. They will read a story, do an art project, sing songs and play games. There will be time to investigate a vast array of materials in order to create a page in their book based on the daily theme or to work on a unique creation of their very own. Fun and friendship guaranteed for all.

Scribblers Ages 4-6
Classes for Scribblers provide preschoolers with a fun environment to develop their creative and pre-literacy skills. Each class has a general theme and each day kids learn through sensory activities, stories, social interaction and related art activities. Each semester culminates in the creation of a bound book that children write and illustrate themselves.
ABCS – (Letters A-L)
Children will explore the shapes and sounds of letters through books, songs and games. Children will create a book with each letter of the alphabet and words that begin with that letter. Proper letter formation will also be taught using the Handwriting Without Tears™ curriculum. Students may enroll for A-Z, a 26 week session class, or sign up for each session separately, A-L and M-Z.
GREAT BOOKS
Highlighting one “great picture book” each week, this class will use art and dramatic play as inspiration for students’ very own creative expression. Watch your child’s enthusiasm for books and storytelling grow!
FAMOUS ARTISTS
Students will study artists from Picasso and Matisse to Klee and Warhol, and create their own versions of iconic paintings. Amaze all your friends with your versatility as an artist and knowledge of art history as you show off your very own collection of masterpieces compiled in book form.

Creativity and clear expression go hand in hand at Scribble Press. Our classes offer students the chance to develop their writing skills in a setting that delicately balances great grammar with infectious laughter, riotous adventures with careful detail, scintillating stories with an understanding of organization. Building vocabulary, grammar, and an ability to express ideas clearly are stones in a mountain best built over time. Our classes progressively give children the foundation they need to reach the top. Each semester culminates in the creation of a bound book that children write and illustrate themselves.
“The Case of the Missing Miss Terious: A Young Author’s Workshop”
Students will have a blast learning critical thinking and writing skills as they delve into the inner workings of the mystery story. Provided with age-appropriate reading lists, students will learn about the various elements that make their favorite stories work. Watch their imagination and vocabulary grow as they embark on their own mystery writing adventure. Students will finish the semester with their own book to take home and share.

Voluminous Vocabulary – A Cartoon Dictionary
Let’s face it – our kids are expected to know more and more words every year. Because all that memorizing can seem daunting, people sometimes forget that WORDS ARE FUN!!! After creating their very own dictionary of cartoon mnemonics (silly pictures to help them remember), students will be laughing at how easily they can master hundreds of words in a single semester.
Non-Guru's Grammar Guide – An Illustrated How-To
There is no better way to be sure you know the rules for writing correctly than to write your own grammar book. At Scribble Press, we know how important it is to be able to write clearly and effectively. This class specializes in highlighting “the silly” in the mistakes we sometimes make in our writing. Can you spot the mistakes? Swimming leisurely along the shore, the rain ruined the day for the walrus.

Scribble on Sundays offers monthly opportunities throughout the school year for our young writers and artists to celebrate what excites them most. Classes include lots of opportunities for oral expression as students share their work with one another.

Do you love reading as much as we do? Come to Scribble on Sunday and talk about our book of the month. Selections will be posted the month before on our website. In addition to practicing their public speaking, participants will be writing book reviews as well as letters to the author. A great way to share books among friends!

Every month, students will be writing journal-like entries about the goings on in their lives to accompany any photographs, A+ papers, ticket stubs, or other memorabilia they bring in. Students will share their adventures together as they work to complete their own illustrated journals. An amazing way to develop descriptive writing skills! The year will culminate in the creation of a bound book that participants can take home to share.
